Armagh miss out in Colts Cup thriller

For the second time in a week Armagh came out on the wrong side of a tied game when the Under 17 team pushed Division One Derriaghy all the way but just fell agonisingly short. The Lisburn based visitors batted well throughout against some errant Armagh bowling, only Harry Boyd taking four wickets was able to bowl with any degree of control throughout. Their final score of 151 looked beyond Armagh, especially as early wickets fell on a fairly regular basis but Matthew Wright knuckled down and played the sort of innings that he is undoubtedly capable of, smashing the ball to and beyond the boundary on his way to a half century. He found a willing ally in Daryl Nesbitt and the pair took Armagh to the brink of a famous win but both were dismissed going for the boundary hit that would have made victory inevitable. That left the junior pair of Lukman Uddin and Ricky Morrison hoping to get some runs off the final over, but unfortunately the talented youngsters were unable to get Armagh across the line off the very last ball, with the home side losing the game by virtue of losing more wickets. Huge credit is due to captain Matthew Steenson and his team for the way they played the game and with the whole side being eligible for next years competition, Armagh’s youth development continues to look good for the future.
