City of Armagh Cricket Club 150th Anniversary Exhibition Match and Gala Dinner. Wednesday 12th August 2009
So far Armagh Cricket Club’s 150th Anniversary summer has been a tremendous success with promising displays on the field by all of the senior and junior teams mixed with plenty of social cricket at local league and Taverners level. The Tyrone Crystal sponsored Golf Classic at Loughgall Country Park was a tremendous success with more than fifty players participating on the day. The Anniversary Celebrations will really kick into full swing throughout July however with the impending release of the Anniversary Brochure and the visit of the Brentwood School U14 Touring side to face an Armagh junior select on Tuesday 7th July, plus the eagerly anticipated book “150 not out, a History of Cricket in Armagh” by club historian WB Weir. The focal point of the Anniversary celebrations will however take place on Wednesday 12th August on the Mall when an Armagh Presidents XI take on a KUKRI Ulster All-Stars XI in what is sure to be an entertaining but highly competitive affair. It is hoped that a few “guest” players will be appearing on the day in a match that will surely be well worth watching. Later that evening, the focus will move around to the Armagh City Hotel, the lavish venue for the 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner, where the great and good of the past, present and hopefully future of Armagh Cricket will come together to celebrate the milestone. Armagh CC are delighted to announce that the guest speaker on the evening will be Geoff Miller, former England test cricketer, current National Selector for the England team and renowned for his popular after-dinner speaking since his retirement. Chariman of the Armagh CC 150TH Anniversary Committee Arnold Courtney noted that “a fine calendar of events had been put together so far, but the 12th August will hopefully be a memorable day for so many reasons. For Armagh to attract the England National Selector to speak at our dinner in the middle of an Ashes Series is a fairly major coup, and hopefully some of the names we attract for the match will attract a bit of attention too.”
Tickets for the Gala Dinner are now on sale, priced at £50 and with a dress code of smart for what should be a special evening. Contact Gareth McCarter on 07843672084 for ticket details.
