Last night the 5th XI made the short trip to County Tyrone to play league leaders Dungannon 2nd XI in a rearranged fixture that had fallen foul of the weather earlier in the season…
Skipper Raymond Hetherington won the toss and asked the hosts to bat on a wicket that looked to favour Armagh’s bowling attack.
Dungannon started at a brisk pace but opening bowlers Josh Wilson and Daniel Beggs took a wicket each to pull the visitors back in contention. Armagh’s spin duo of Adam Wilson and the veteran off spinner Keith Wilson took 3 wickets each to keep the hosts in check and despite some late lusty blows Dungannon finished on 131-8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Unfortunately Armagh started poorly losing Adam Wilson early. Adam Breakey (18), Ryan Hetherington(30) and Ashley Dilbert (14) rebuilt the run chase before Josh Wilson (18 no) and Prasad saw the visitors home with 4 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare.
It was an excellent win, that has spiralled the 5th XI to the top of Junior League 11c, having only lost one game this season. Skipper Raymond Hetherington, has enjoyed a fine season in charge promoting new signings, youth cricketers and a few experienced players to make the 5th XI a very competitive side.
